NORFORK MAN FOUND DECEASED WHEN DEPUTIES RESPONDED TO A CALL TUESDAY

07/12/2023

A Norfork man was found deceased Tuesday morning, July 11th, at a residence on First Street in Norfork after deputies responded to a complaint call there involving an intruder inside the residence.

Deputies were told  by the complaining party that 28 year old SKYLER D. SMITH of Norfork had gone inside the residence and was upstairs.  A felony warrant had previously been issued for SKYLER SMITH after he had caused extensive damage to the same residence.  The warrant was still outstanding and waiting to be served.

Deputies made entry into the residence and went to the upstairs area.  The complaining party stated that SMITH liked to hide in a small area of the attic.  Deputies went to that area.  A white sheet had been hung up in the corner.  Once deputies pulled the sheet back, they found SKYLER SMITH lying on his back.  There was a long gun found with the barrel facing toward SMITH.  He appeared to be deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.  No vital signs were detected.  The Baxter County Coroner's Office was called to the scene, and the residence was turned over to the Sheriff's Criminal Investigation Division for processing.

The body of the deceased will be sent to the Arkansas State Medical Examiner's Office for autopsy to confirm cause and manner of death.
