Grant Received for Mobile Data Computers

06/02/2023

The Baxter County Sheriff's Office and the Baxter County Sheriff's Foundation are excited to announce that it has been awarded a grant from the Arkansas State Police's FY 2023 Highway Safety Federal Subgrant Program in the amount of $107,160.00.  This grant will be used for the purchase and installation of mobile data computers for Sheriff's Office patrol vehicles that will allow deputies to utilize the eCite and eCrash programs.  Deputies will also have mobile access to both the Arkansas and National Crime Information Center databases, as well as interconnectivity with the Sheriff's Office Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system.

This grant will equip 17 Sheriff's Office vehicles with computers, printers, scanners, docking stations, and other associated equipment.  This equipment will increase deputy safety as less time will be spent on traffic stops and it will enhance efficiency and allow deputies to spend more time in the field and less time at the office working on paperwork and reports.

The grant has a requirement of a 10% local match, which will be in the amount of $10,716.00.  At its regular meeting earlier this month, the Board of Directors of the Baxter County Sheriff's Foundation, Inc. generously voted to provide this local match money from the Foundation's coffers, which means that Baxter County itself will not incur any expenses for this project.  The Sheriff's Foundation is a 501(c)3 domestic non-profit corporation organized in 2009 for the purpose of providing support and assistance to the Baxter County Sheriff's Office and its employees.  Since its inception, the Sheriff's Foundation has provided more than $200,000 in equipment, goods, scholarships, and services to the Sheriff's Office and Sheriff's personnel, all of which was possible because of funds donated to the Sheriff's Foundation by the generosity of members of the public who support law enforcement.

Our goal is to eventually outfit the remaining twenty-three certified deputy vehicles with the mobile data computers at a cost of approximately $6500 per car.
