The Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a rural Mountain Home woman that occurred yesterday, July 28th.  At approximately 5:20 PM, deputies were dispatched to the area of 3594 Buford Road on a report that a female had shot herself with a handgun.

Deputies arrived and found the critically injured victim, identified as 33 year old ASHLEY ERIN MOONEY, inside a 2016 Toyota Pathfinder.  Her husband was in the vehicle with her when the incident occurred.   First aid was administered and emergency medical personnel responded.  The victim was transported by ambulance to Baxter Regional Medical Center in Mountain Home, then on to an emergency hospital in Springfield, Missouri.  The victim did not survive her injuries and was pronounced deceased in Springfield.  The handgun used was located, secured, and taken into evidence.

The decedent is being taken to the Arkansas State Medical Examiner’s Office in Little Rock for autopsy to determine cause and manner of death.  Evidence collected at the scene was consistent with a suicide, and no foul play is suspected.
