BODY OF LONE ROCK MAN RECOVERED FROM WHITE RIVER

07/26/2018

The body of a Lone Rock area man was recovered from the White River near Buffalo City on Wednesday evening, July 25th.

At approximately 6:00 PM, the Sheriff’s Office took a report of a possible drowning in the area between Buffalo City and Riley’s Resort.  The caller reported that a man wearing a life jacket was face down in the water, possibly hung up on a log or submerged tree limb.

Witnesses first saw the man in his boat around 9:00 AM, and he remained in that same area throughout the day.  Witnesses said they last observed the man around 4:00 PM moving around inside his boat, which was moored.  The operators of Riley’s Resort later went out to check on the man and the boat.  They found his body in the water and then called emergency services.

Sheriff’s deputies and other emergency personnel responded to the scene and took a boat over to the area where the body was found.  A Sheriff’s diver entered the water and recovered the body.  The deceased was later identified as 64 year old EDWIN EVANS of Lone Rock.

The body of the deceased was turned over to the Baxter County Coroner’s Office.  The body is being sent to the Arkansas State Medical Examiner’s Office in Little Rock for autopsy to determine cause of death.

Agencies involved were the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office, Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, and Buford Area Fire Department, with assistance from the public.
