04/29/2023

On April 17th, 2023, the following scam / fraud was reported to the Baxter County Sheriff's Office.   A citizen advised the Sheriff's Office that he had recently received a phone call from what was represented to be The Bank of America enquiring about investing. The citizen believed that he was receiving a legitimate solicitation to invest funds with The Bank of America of Newport, Arkansas.  It was discovered that the caller was illegitimate and was perpetrating a scam / fraud.  The citizen lost over $2000.00 to the scam / Fraud.

To date, the Baxter County Sheriff's Office has had $32,500 in fraudulent cash activity reported, and this ONLY represents what we know of. Many times, victims do not report these cases due to embarrassment or not wanting family members to know they were a victim.

The Baxter County Sheriff's Office would like to remind our citizens to be mindful of unsolicited calls, emails, prizes, etc.  If any citizen is ever suspicious of such activity, please call our office at 870-425-7000
