shop with a cop participants

This year's "Shop-With-A-Cop" event was held on Saturday morning, December 7th, at Walmart in Mountain Home and was a great success.

Officers from the Baxter County Sheriff's Office, Mountain Home Police Department, Lakeview Police Department, Gassville Police Department, and the Arkansas State Parks Police joined together to shop with children for presents to help make their Christmas brighter and merrier.  Each child was given a $100 shopping card to use however he or she wanted to spend it.

The children and families invited to attend were selected based upon recommendations from the School Resource Officers and the School Counselors at the Mountain Home, Cotter, and Norfork Schools.

Ninety-five children from approximately forty families took part in this year's event.  The event was sponsored jointly by the Mountain Home Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No.45, Walmart Store No. 11, and Junior Auxiliary of Mountain Home, which provided a complimentary food basket to each family.  Volunteers also wrapped the presents that the children selected and purchased.

This yearly event was made possible by a grant from Walmart Foundation and by many generous donations made by various businesses, organizations, and individual citizens in our community.  We can truly appreciate the generosity and the kind and giving spirit of the people who live and work in this community.  We are blessed.
