The Sheriff’s Office has arrested 26 year old MILAN SWEET of Summit, Arkansas on burglary and theft charges stemming from an investigation into the theft of a motor vehicle from a home on Stonegate Drive that was reported on July 16th.

The victim told investigators that she had been working outside in the yard of her home and went inside at approximately 7:30 PM on the evening of July 16th.  When she went inside, she left the garage door open, and her 2006 Chevrolet HHR was parked inside.  The vehicle was valued at $5,000.  The victim came back outside approximately two hours later to close the garage door only to find her vehicle was missing out of the garage.  The victim’s purse had also been left in the vehicle.

The Sheriff’s Office alerted other law enforcement agencies in the surrounding area to watch for the stolen vehicle.  Later that same evening, the victim notified the Sheriff’s Office that one of her credit cards had been used at 9:05 PM at the Bullseye Gas station in Gainesville, Missouri.  Early the next morning, July 17th, the Ozark County Sheriff’s Office in Gainesville, Missouri notified Baxter County that they had located the stolen vehicle and had the suspect in custody.   They identified the arrestee as MILAN SWEET, a parolee.  He was booked into the Ozark County Jail while Baxter County Sheriff’s Investigators obtained a bench warrant from the Baxter County Circuit Court to apprehend SWEET for his crimes here.

MILAN SWEET was extradited from Ozark County on Thursday evening, July 20th, and booked into the Baxter County jail at 8:08 PM on charges of:

Residential Burglary – Felony Theft of Property – Felony Failure to Appear – Outstanding Felony Warrant Parole Violation

SWEET is currently being held in lieu of $30,000 bond on the new charges and without bond for the parole violation.  Documentation on file indicates that MILAN SWEET has been booked into the Baxter County Jail approximately seven (7) times since 2009 on various charges including burglary, theft, battery, resisting arrest, and failure to appear.

MILAN SWEET was sentenced to probation in October, 2010 by the Circuit Court on some of those charges.  His probation was revoked in August, 2014, and he was sent to the Arkansas Department of Corrections (ADC). SWEET was released on parole in May, 2015.  In April, 2016 his parole was revoked and he was sent back to ADC.  SWEET was again released on parole in October, 2016.  He is now scheduled to appear in Baxter County Circuit Court on August 3rd to answer these new charges.
