DEPUTIES ARREST FELON FOR POSSESSING A FIREARM

05/11/2017

Joshua Daniel Lane

Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 36 year old JOSHUA DANIEL LANE Wednesday evening, May 10th, on a weapons charge after investigating a complaint in the Gamaliel area.

A woman called the Sheriff’s Office at approximately 7:10 PM wanting to meet a deputy at a residence to assist in retrieving articles of personal property from JOSHUA LANE.  The woman and another person had already gone to LANE’s residence in attempt to pick up her property.  She reported to Deputy Craig Gates that LANE had a handgun in his possession when they had met and refused to let her have the property. LANE then allegedly threw rocks at the woman and the other person accompanying her, and they left the residence.  The woman was able to take a photograph on her cell phone showing LANE in possession of the firearm.

Deputies ran a check on JOSHUA LANE in the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) database and found that he had previously been convicted of felony crimes in both Oregon County, Missouri and Ozark County, Missouri.  Those convictions would serve to prohibit him from possessing firearms in the State of Arkansas.

Deputy Gates and Corporal Rockie Morrell then drove to the residence where JOSHUA LANE was at.  As they were driving toward the house, they heard a gunshot.  On arrival, they gave commands to LANE to come out of the residence, which he did. LANE was taken into custody without further incident.  He showed deputies were the firearm was.  Deputies took a .45ACP caliber handgun into evidence. LANE stated he fired a round into the woods in the opposite direction from the deputies as a warning because he thought other persons were coming to residence to harm him. There was no evidence found to indicate he had actually fired in the direction of the deputies.

JOSHUA LANE was transported to the Detention Center and booked on one charge of Possession of Firearms by Certain Persons (a convicted felon) – Felony.  He is being held in lieu of $10,000 bond and will appear in the Circuit Court to answer later today.
