CITIZEN TIP LEADS TO ARREST OF LOCAL FUGITIVE

      A fugitive from justice, 48 year old JOHN LEROY LEWIS of Briarcliff, was taken into custody Thursday afternoon by Sheriff’s Deputies on outstanding arrest warrants after a citizen provided a tip as to his location.

     The Briarcliff City Marshal’s Office received a citizen tip indicating that JOHN LEROY LEWIS was at a residence on Baxter CR 614 in the Shady Grove area.  Sheriff’s deputies responded to that residence and apprehended LEWIS there at approximately 5:15 PM.  He was taken into custody without incident.  Deputies had received other tips as to the location of LEWIS during the past several weeks, but he had not been found.

     JOHN LEROY LEWIS was transported to the Baxter County Detention Center and incarcerated on charges of:

Failure to Appear (original charge Delivery of Methamphetamine) – Felony
Failure to Appear (original charge Possession of Controlled Substance) – Felony
Failure to Appear (original charge probation violation and Theft) – Misdemeanor

     JOHN LEWIS is being held without bond on the felony warrants and will appear in Circuit Court to answer on May 7th.
