A complaint the Sheriff’s Office received Wednesday afternoon about the manner in which a person was driving has resulted in that person being arrested for possessing a stolen vehicle and other charges.

At approximately 12:34 PM Wednesday, the Sheriff’s Office was notified of a driving complaint involving a tan Chevrolet Tahoe that was coming into Baxter County on U. S. Highway 62/412 from Fulton County.  Sheriff’s Deputy Doug Meurer located the vehicle and initiated a stop at approximately 12:49 PM at J. & J. Watersports on Highway 62/412 East.  The driver of the vehicle was identified as RORY ALLEN GREGORY, 50 years old of rural Mountain Home.

Deputy Meurer determined that the license plate for the vehicle indicated it belonged on a 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe registered to GREGORY.  However, the vehicle GREGORY was driving and upon which the license plate was displayed was actually a 2006 Chevrolet Tahoe.  Deputy Meurer ran a check on the vehicle identification number (VIN) through the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) system.  This inquiry returned a hit indicating the vehicle was entered as stolen by the Houston, Texas Police Department, having been reported stolen in that jurisdiction on October 20, 2011.  The vehicle has an estimated value of $10,000.00.

RORY ALLEN GREGORY was subsequently taken into custody on charges related to operating and possessing a stolen motor vehicle.  A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered approximately 2 grams of suspected black tar heroin.

Sheriff’s Investigators later searched GREGORY’s residence.  Inside the residence they found and seized approximately 2.3 grams of methamphetamine.  On the property, Investigators found a 2010 RWMI 20 foot trailer that had been reported stolen to the Poplar Bluff, Missouri Police Department on June 4, 2011 valued at $4,000.00.  In addition, a 10 foot utility trailer valued at $1,800.00 was found at the residence that had all identification numbers and markings removed.  It is suspected that this trailer is stolen as well.

RORY ALLEN GREGORY was transported to the Detention Center and is being held on charges of:

Receiving or Possessing Stolen Property (3 counts) – Felonies
     Possession of Methamphetamine – Felony
     Possession of Heroin – Felony
     Fictitious Vehicle License – Misdemeanor

Bond for GREGORY has been set at $50,000.00, and he will appear in Baxter County Circuit Court later this month.

The investigation is continuing, and additional charges may be filed.  The Arkansas State Police assisted with the stop, arrest, and investigation.
