SHERIFF’S OFFICE INVESTIGATING THE DEATH OF 17 MONTH OLD INFANT

09/12/2011

The Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a 17 month old infant who lived in the Midway area. On Sunday, September 11 at approximately 4:59 AM, the Sheriff’s Office was notified of a call that the 911 Center had received about an unresponsive small child at 2340 Hwy 178 West in Midway. Sheriff’s Sgt. Kevin Boucher responded, as did emergency medical personnel. CPR was administered on the child while awaiting the arrival of the ambulance.

The child was transported by ambulance to Baxter Regional Medical Center, but she was pronounced dead at 6:00 AM after attempts to revive her had failed. The child is identified as Addison Holt. Sheriff’s personnel were told by the child’s father, Deric J. Holt, that he and another child were present in the residence when he discovered that the small infant was unresponsive and a call was placed to 911.

The body of the child has been sent to the Arkansas State Medical Examiner’s Office in Little Rock for autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death. Preliminary indications are that the child became entangled in some kind of harness in the bedroom and got the straps wrapped around her neck, rendering her unable to breathe. The Sheriff’s Office will continue with its investigation while awaiting the preliminary autopsy results.
