Baxter County Deputy Not Injured in Accident on Highway 5

     May 20, 2011 at approximately 7:33 pm, Baxter County Deputies were responding to a 911 call of a motor vehicle accident on Hwy 101 in the Gamaliel, Arkansas area. The vehicle had reportedly hit a utility pole snapping it in half. The caller was unsure of injuries.

     Deputy Sheriff, Corporal Eddie Elliott, was responding as a backup officer to the call. Corporal Elliott was southbound on State Highway 5 in the 2700 block when he ran off the roadway striking two parked vehicles before coming to rest facing Northbound. Corporal Elliott was running Code (lights and siren) at the time of the accident. His patrol vehicle, a 2005 Ford Crown Victoria sustained heavy damage.

     Corporal Eddie T. Elliott, age 32, has been employed by the Baxter County Sheriff's Office for 4 years, the last 2 years in the patrol division. Corporal Elliott was checked by medical personnel at the scene but was not injured.

     The accident is being investigated by Trooper Angela Dewitt of the Arkansas State Police.
