APPLICANTS BEING SOUGHT FOR RESERVE DEPUTY POSITIONS

     The Baxter County Sheriff's Office is now accepting applications for the position of Reserve (Auxiliary) Deputy Sheriff.  These are unpaid, volunteer positions. 

     Reserve Deputies assist the Sheriff's Office in many different capacities.  These include assisting deputies on patrol, assisting with court bailiff and court security work at the Courts Complex, transporting inmates and arrestees, serving civil process, assisting with parades and functions, and many other duties.

     Applicants must be at least 21 years of age, free of convictions for felony offenses in Arkansas and all other jurisdictions, be a high school graduate, and meet all other minimum requirements for law enforcement personnel as established by the Arkansas Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and Training (CLEST).  A complete list of those requirements can be provided with the application form.

     Training for the Reserve Deputy program is scheduled to commence around March 1st.   The Sheriff's Office will provide uniforms and training, but Reserve Deputies are required to furnish their own handgun of an approved type, holster, duty belt, and other such equipment at their own expenses.

      Once commissioned, Reserve Deputies are required to volunteer a minimum of eight hours per month at the Sheriff's Office in some capacity, and will be required to take 24 hours of continuing training and education each calendar year.

     Those persons interested in applying may obtain an application from the Sheriff's Administration Offices during normal office hours.  Applications will be accepted through Friday, February 10th , after which applications will be reviewed and applicants selected for interview.
