A Baxter County Jail inmate was found deceased this morning during a routine hourly cell check.  Jailers discovered 53 year old FRANK SALVADORE COMPTON, with a stated address of Harrison, Arkansas, unresponsive at approximately 3:19 AM while conducting a cell check.  Jailers immediately began CPR and called for a paramedic ambulance from Baxter Regional Medical Center.

Efforts to revive FRANK COMPTON were not successful, and he was pronounced deceased at the Detention Center.  Information indicates that FRANK COMPTON was arrested and brought to the Baxter County Detention Center by a Mountain Home Police Department officer at approximately 8:24 PM on Tuesday, February 19th.  He had been brought by ambulance to Baxter Regional Medical Center from an address in Marion County earlier on Tuesday afternoon, arriving at the ER at approximately 3:50 PM.  He was discharged about 3 ½ hours later.

After FRANK COMPTON was discharged from the hospital, he remained on the hospital premises.  He was observed allegedly trying to break into some automobiles, and the Mountain Home Police were called.  They arrested FRANK COMPTON on charges of Public Intoxication and Criminal Trespass and brought him to the Detention Center where he was booked in after his arrival there.  Jailers performed routine checks on COMPTON thereafter, and he was found to be unresponsive during a 3:19 AM check.  COMPTON was in a temporary holding cell by himself.

The body of the deceased is being sent to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory in Little Rock for autopsy to determine cause and manner of death.  As is customary in these situations, the Arkansas State Police was called to investigate the death, with the Sheriff’s Office assisting as needed.

No additional details or information can be released until the investigation has been completed.
