CORRECTED RELEASE: MAN ARRESTED ON DRUG CHARGES DURING VEHICLE STOP

05/25/2017

John Everett Shrum, Jr.

Correction:  Original release stated that JOHN SHRUM was on currently on probation.  That statement was in error.  The driver of the vehicle that SHRUM was a passenger in is the person who was on probation, and that person was not charged with any offense.  We apologize for the error.

A 29 year old Gassville man, JOHN EVERETT SHRUM, JR., was arrested early this morning on new drug possession charges.

Sheriff’s Deputy Craig Gates stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation at approximately 1:33 AM today on Baxter CR 8. JOHN SHRUM was a passenger in the vehicle.  The deputy determined that the driver of the vehicle is a probationer and that there is a search waiver on file for him.  After observing suspected marijuana in open view inside the vehicle, the deputy subsequently conducted a search of the vehicle, which was registered to SHRUM, and a search of SHRUM’s person.

During the course of the search, the deputy found drugs and drug paraphernalia.  These included small quantities of suspected methamphetamine, marijuana, alprazolam pills and acetaminophen pills, as well as articles used to ingest or consume these drugs.

JOHN EVERETT SHRUM, JR. was arrested and transported to the Detention Center where he was booked on charges of:

Possession of Controlled Substance (2 counts) – Felonies
Possession of Controlled Substance (2 counts) – Misdemeanors
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia – Felony

He was released from custody after posting $5,000 bond and will appear in the Circuit Court to answer later today.
