Sheriff’s Office Investigators have sought the filing of charges against a Baxter County Jail inmate in connection with the theft of two all- terrain(ATV/RTV) vehicles. MILAN SWEET, 26 years old of Summit, Arkansas, was already being held in the Baxter County Detention Center since his arrest by the Mountain Home Police Department (MHPD) on March 13th on charges unrelated to these theft investigations.

On March 6th, a suspect later identified as MILAN SWEET fled on foot from an Arkansas State Police Trooper in the Buford area.  Later that same day, the Sheriff’s Office received a report from a person residing in that same area that someone had entered into his garage and stole a 2011 Polaris 500 Sportsman ATV valued at $4,500.

Later still the same day, March 6th, a second ATV was reported stolen, then abandoned on Baxter CR 5 about 1 mile from where it was taken.  A woman informed the deputy who took this report that she had observed a person riding an her father’s RTV, a Cub Cadet side by side valued at $10,000, on the side of the roadway near where it was taken.  She gave the deputy a description of the person riding the RTV and also said she observed him abandon it and get into a small black 4 door sedan being driven by another man.

Deputies have been searching for the stolen 2011 Polaris 500 ATV, but it has yet to be found.  It is believed to have been abandoned somewhere in a wooded area after it was stolen.

Following his arrest by MHPD, Sheriff’s Investigators interviewed MILAN SWEET concerning these thefts.  He admitted to stealing both vehicles and has given deputies information as to the general location where the Polaris ATV can be found.

MILAN SWEET is now charged additionally with:

Breaking or Entering – Felony
Theft of Property (2 counts) – Felonies

He will have a bond of $15,000 on these charges and will appear later this month in the Circuit Court to answer.
