A Clarkridge man, 49 year old KENNETH WAYNE JACKSON, is being held in the Baxter County Detention Center on a felony charge of Battery in the First Degree.  JACKSON was arrested Sunday evening, May 8th, after deputies responded to a reported Domestic Disturbance call at 532 Somer View Drive in Clarkridge at approximately 9:00 PM.

While enroute to the scene, deputies received information that one man had left the house on foot and that a neighbor was shooting at him.  Upon arrival, deputies found a man (later identified as KENNETH WAYNE JACKSON) standing in the road holding a black pistol in his hand, holding another man on the ground at gunpoint.

Deputies secured the handgun from JACKSON, then found that the man on the ground had been shot once in the front left shoulder.  The handgun used was a Glock 9mm.

A female witness told deputies that JACKSON and his victim had been arguing and fighting in the house in question.  The victim left, and JACKSON began shooting the handgun at him firing several rounds.  Three expended cartridges were found on the ground.

JACKSON claimed he fired in self-defense as the victim was moving toward him.  The victim, however, was unarmed and alleged his had his hands raised as JACKSON was firing at him.

Deputies arrested JACKSON, and he was booked on a First Degree Battery charge.  He is being held in the Detention Center in lieu of $50,000 bond. JACKSON will appear in Circuit Court to answer on May 12th.
