The Sheriff’s Office has arrested two persons on felony battery charges related to the abuse of a child.  On the evening of August 16th, 2013 the Sheriff’s Office responded to 3851 Buford Road to investigate a child abuse complaint.  A babysitter had found bruising on the face, arms, chest, buttocks, and legs of a six (6) year old boy.

Sheriff’s Investigator Trey Edings confirmed the injuries to the child and began an investigation.  The child was taken into protective custody by the Department of Human Services, Division of Children and Family Services.

Investigators believe that the child’s mother and boyfriend had been using a wooden board or “paddle” to purportedly discipline the child with.  The dimensions of this board were approximately 1 1/8th inch thick, 21 ¼ inches long, 3 ½ inches wide, with a handle roughly cut into one end.  It appeared to have been made from a 2 x 4 board or similar object.  This paddle was found, seized, and taken into evidence.  It is also believed the child had been slapped across his face causing injury.

Several interviews were conducted beginning August 19th.  Statements from suspects and witnesses were recorded, and additional evidence was gathered.

On August 22, Investigator Edings submitted an affidavit to the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney requesting that charges be filed against the child’s mother and boyfriend for felony domestic battery.

Warrants of Arrest were received by the Sheriff’s Office today, August 29th, and have now been served.

ANDREA VICTORIA KRUPP, 33  years old of Gamaliel, Arkansas, and RICHARD GARRETT HOUSE, 35 years old of rural Mountain Home, Arkansas were booked into the Detention Center this afternoon, each with a charge of:

Domestic Battery in the Second Degree – Class C Felony

Both were released from detention after posting bond in the amount of $5,000 each as indicated on the warrant.  KRUPP and HOUSE are scheduled to appear in Baxter County Circuit Court on September 5, 2013.
