DEPUTIES WILL PARTICIPATE IN NATIONAL CLICK IT OR TICKET MOBILIZATION

05/16/2013

The Baxter County Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with other law enforcement agencies nationwide, will be participating in a national “click it or ticket” enforcement campaign set to kick off on May 20th and run through the Memorial Day weekend and until June 2nd.

As the busy summer driving seasons arrives, it is important that everyone buckle up on every trip, every time, both day and night – no excuses.  Deputies are committed to this lifesaving initiative and prepared to ticket anyone not wearing a seat belt who is required by law to wear one.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), 52 percent of passenger vehicle occupants killed in 2011 were not wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash.

Seat belts save thousands of lives every year, but far too many motorists are still not buckling up, especially at night when the risk of a crash is even greater.  The Sheriff’s Office wants everyone to have a fun and safe summer, but it requires an important step on the part of motorists……clicking the seat belt.

For more information on the Click It or Ticket mobilization, visit www.nhtsa.gov or contact the Arkansas State Police Highway Safety Office at (501) 618-8136.
