Lakeview Man Arrested After Driving 112 MPH

May 15, 2013 at approximately 4 pm, Baxter County Doug Meurer was westbound on Hwy 178 near Lakeview, Arkansas when he observed a vehicle eastbound coming towards him at a high rate of speed. Deputy Meurer locked the vehicle on his radar at 112 miles per hour in a 55 mph zone.  Deputy Meurer activated his blue lights and the vehicle continued past him at a high rate of speed. Deputy Meurer radioed the description of the vehicle and driver to the Baxter County Dispatch.  

Deputy Meurer was unable to catch up to the suspect vehicle, however a few minutes later, Mountain Home Police Sergeant Brian Corbett radioed he and Officer Rodney Wiggins had the suspect vehicle located at Baxter Regional Medical Center and the suspect in custody.  Sergeant Corbett had locked radar on the suspect at 76 Mph near Hospital Drive; however the suspect would not stop for the City Police Officers either.

The suspect, Jacob Caple admitted to officers he saw both Deputy Meurer and Sergeant Corbett but was on his way to the hospital to see a family member who had been taken there earlier in the day. Caple was taken into custody without further incident and booked into the Baxter County Detention Center.  A subsequent search of Caple’s vehicle found schedule II pills, Oxycotin.

Jacob Edward Caple, age 21 of Lakeview was charged with:

  • ·         Speeding 112/55
  • ·         Reckless Driving
  • ·         Felony Fleeing in a Vehicle
  • ·         No Seat Belt
  • ·         Possession of a Schedule II Controlled substance (Oxycotin )

Caple’s bond was set at $3,500. He is scheduled to appear in Baxter County Circuit Court on Thursday morning at 1 pm.
