The results from the first two polls on the Sheriff’s Office website are now in.  As previously reported, the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office launched the new weekly poll feature to its website on August 30, 2012.

The first two polls dealt with meals and menus for inmates in the Detention Center.  The first poll asked the following question:  “How many meals were served to inmates in the Baxter County Jail in 2011?”  Answers to choose from were:

11,126
26,417
54,210
77,868
164,215

A total of 198 people voted in the first poll.  The correct answer was 77,868 meals had been served.  41.4% of those voting chose the correct response.

In the second poll, the following question was asked:  “The Baxter County Detention Center serves the same meals virtually 365 days a year.  Oatmeal for breakfast, bologna sandwiches for lunch and beans and cornbread for dinner.  Do you think this is fair to the inmates?”  Participants could answer “Yes” or “No”.  A total of 623 people voted in the second poll.  82.8% of those participating answered “Yes” to the question, while 17.2% answered “No”.

As indicated during the press release announcing the new poll feature, the polls are either email or IP specific, meaning that only one vote per email or IP address entered will be accepted.  This will prevent multiple votes being cast by one person which would tend to skew the results of the poll.

The Sheriff’s Office thanks those who voted in these first two polls and encourages everyone to continue voting to make their choices and preferences known.  We appreciate the public feedback.
