Baxter County Deputy Thwarts Suicide Attempt

09/09/2012

September 8, 2012

Quick thinking by Baxter County Sheriff’s Deputy, William Altazan and  Corporal Scott Thrasher prevented a potential deadly outcome for a Mountain Home Woman.  At approximately 12 am, Deputy Altazan and Corporal Thrasher were just east of Mountain Home when they observed a vehicle traveling eastbound towards Henderson. Deputy Altazan had made a traffic stop on the vehicle earlier on the 62 East Henderson bridge.  Altazan stated the woman in the car was making statements that made him concerned for her safety, however the woman assured him she was fine and was going to her home in Northern Hills.

Due to the previous encounter and the direction of travel, Deputy Altazan traveled to the Hwy 101 Bridge and Corporal Thrasher went to the Hwy 62 Bridge over Lake Norfork. Corporal Thrasher observed the vehicle stopped on the Hwy 62 Bridge. When Thrasher activated his blue lights, the driver quickly exited her vehicle and attempted to climb over the railing. Corporal Thrasher exited his patrol vehicle and grabbed the woman before she could jump off the bridge. The 55 year old female of Mountain Home was taken into protective custody and charged with Disorderly Conduct and Public Intoxication.

HRA, Health Resources of Arkansas (State Contracted Mental Health Agency) was contacted for an evaluation.  After their evaluation the subject posted bond and was released pending her court appearance in Baxter County District Court on October 25th at 9 am.
