Joshua Daniel (J.D.) King was born on July 18, 1916 at Moccasin Creek in Baxter County. His parents were John Daniel King and Mary Rebecca Arnold King. He had two half-brothers, Raymond King and Fred King; two brothers, Grady King and Rueban King; and one sister, Geraldine.

Mr. King attended school in Norfork and Arkansas State Teachers College. He married Roe Clinton Matthews on May 7, 1938. His first job was working on the construction of Norfork Dam.

Mr. King served in the Army during WWII and was discharged in August 1946. He served on the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, and was a Game Warden from 1947 through 1948. He was an Officer with the Arkansas State Police from 1949 to 1950. He was elected Sheriff of Baxter County on November 4, 1952.

Mr. King had two children, Ida M. Shinn and Jon Daniel King; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

In 1958 Mr. King purchased the white County Lumber Company and lived in Searcy through the remainder of his life. He died on February 14, 2002 at the age of 85.
